Duluth,
When I read your posts, I do not think that you are working strictly on emotion. You are also working with common sense.
We all have emotions tied up in this case but what you write has excellent merit and your points are well taken.
You are right - it is what Arias wants that drives her. And what she wants, she feels she deserves, so essentially we are saying the same thing.
Many, many postings ago, we talked about, or at least I did, that people MUST put a label on others in order to make some sense to themselves as to the horrific deeds that they do.
No one in their right mind would ever do such heinous things. They must be mentally ill for sure.
Depression is a form of mental illness. Anxiety is also. But these two examples do not necessarily mean that that one will commit murder.
Many people have been diagnosed with BPD or Bi-Polar for example but they lead productive lives and do not commit horrendous crimes.
People find it easier to accept a "label" as the reason people do such things. They feel there must be a reason.
If that makes it easier to stomach for many, fine. I believe that whatever the disorder, there can also be plain and simple pure evil inherent in the person.
I also personally believe some people are just plain bad people and very evil to the core.
If one believes in good and evil, why can they not believe that a person is just plain evil when they believe that so many are so good?
Evil people know right from wrong but chose the negative path IMO.
I believe Arias is one of these people.
Like you stated, she planned very carefully her ultimate murder of Travis. She knew exactly what she was doing.
Who knows why she got the gas cans from Darryl? All we know is that it was part of her plan as was the theft of her grandfather's gun, the dying of her hair, the turning off of her cell phone, etc.
There will be many who will study and take apart Arias' personality in the future. It has been done with all horrible people. They say that by learning about these people, it helps in seeing others who display similar characteristics and maybe stop them before they do something terrible.
I doubt that. These people only come to light AFTER they are caught.
I am content with knowing that Arias is evil to the very core of her being AND she is locked away for the rest of her life. I do not need to study her - I need to forget her and let her waste away in a truly god-forsaken place - prison.
