RE: End is Near Hopefully - Observer - 02-24-2015

In his closing argument, Kirk Nurmi talks out of both sides of his mouth.

He warns the jury not to be emotionally swayed by the victim impact statements of Travis Alexander’ sister Samantha and brother Stephen.

Then he puts up a lovey dovey picture of a blonde smiling Arias with her hand on the chest of Travis Alexander with green pine trees behind them and says, “Can you kill the woman Travis Alexander loved?” and “this is a sad case.”

In cross examination of Dr. Janeen DeMarte, Nurmi ridiculed her and accused her of being unethical, inexperienced and stupid, but in the closing argument, he uses what she testified to about Borderline Personality Disorder and Arias being sexually abused at a young age to prove his mitigating factors.

He said other than smoking pot, Arias has no criminal record and showed her driver’s license to show she was 27 when she killed Alexander but said although she was intelligent that she was immature for her age and easily manipulated.

“Jodi Arias is not just a person sitting at table at court,” Nurmi says. “She’s also this person.” He points to pictures of Arias with Daryl Brewer and his son Jack. He mentioned that Arias was like a big sister to Jack.

Nurmi said Arias relationship with Brewer was “stable” and said she dyed her hair blonde and got a breast implant to please Brewer and to look like his ex wife.

He also showed pictures of Arias with her family, Bobby Juarez and Matt McCartney.

“This is a snapshot of a girl whose life is in your hands.”

He says they are not allowed to use emotion and then he tries to get them to feel sorry for his poor little mentally ill girl who had a family and boyfriends before the mean old state locked her up.

Glad that we are in agreement Lunarscope! Makes one feel they may be on the right track.

In reading everything so far that Nurmi has been saying, I see it as just a rehash of the defense's case.

Things that have all been said before.

He continually refers to Arias as "girl" and "mentally ill". As he did not put on any mitigation case, he now must align his closing to address the mitigating factors.

Too little, too late.

He is even proclaiming that Travis was responsible for the "not" porn on the Bishops' computer when it has been emphatically proven otherwise.

He is bringing in the porn once again.

IMO opinion, there is nothing that he is saying that proves Arias should not get the DP.

They are saying that the jury is listening and watching Nurmi as he speaks.
OF COURSE THEY ARE!
That is what they must do and I do not see the relevance in what they are saying.

I have had enough of Nurmi and his bogus defense and now his bogus closing. So sick of him and this entire defense.

I await Mr. Martinez.

RE: End is Near Hopefully - Observer - 02-24-2015

Reporters reactions in tweets to Nurmi's closing:

Jeffrey Evan Gold: OMG Nurmi asks why did this relationship with #JodiArias end the way it did. His answer because of Travis. Ultimate blame the victim game.

Monica Lindstrom: Even if some of what KN is saying is true, is it strong enough for jurors to get over any hatred they have for #jodiarias and what she did?

JustDaTruth: How is it that Nurmi describes a 34-woman as a 'girl' and yet describes the 30-year old victim as a 'man' #emotionalblackmail

William Pitts: Nurmi's themes so far: verdict is your moral choice, #JodiArias molds herself to men's wishes, her fate is in your hands.

Tammy Rose: I've never heard so many contradictions in a closing argument before. Let's hope I'm not the only one. #JodiArias

Michael Kiefer: Nurmi keeps strategically referring to parts of DeMarte's assessment of #jodiarias that suit defense purposes.

RE: End is Near Hopefully - Lunarscope - 02-24-2015

Nurmi gets the final word in this phase' so Martinez will not need to finish today, (no time) so Nurmi can backtrack for hours' Martinez gets to have jury leave with his topics fresh in their minds and hopefully Martinez gets to start tomorrow again fighting for Travis, = after Martinez it's Nurmi again then deliberations!

RE: End is Near Hopefully - NERN - 02-24-2015

Observer - thanks for the tweets!

The one that stuck me was the reference to Arias as a girl and Travis as a man!

I believe the jury will be wise.
If the public can see the obvious and they are not privy to absolutely everything, I would think that 12 people will be much the same and they know more than we do!

From a JDT thread 12!2013
JustDaTruth Wrote:[Image: 7bc264d8500e60a3a9ad1c589ada55040c1600d1_r.jpg]

I'm posting this picture that alternate juror Tara Kelley posted a little while ago on Twitter. If you're not familiar with Tara, I suggest you follow her. She is a woman with a heart of gold who made the trek to Riverside, California so she could spend some time with Travis. This photo really hit me. I often find I am angry about Travis's death. Not sad, because most times I can't allow myself to go to that place.  I'm angry about how tortured and frightened he had to have been. I'm angered that anyone would think to take his life in so callous a manner. And mostly, I'm angry because there is no remorse for his killing. None.

But this picture didn't make me angry. It made me sad. Really fucking sad. Sad because had Travis had the opportunity to have met Tara and her little boy, he would have shown her the kindness and generosity of spirit he was known for.  And that was taken away from all three of them--Travis, Tara and her son. I don't know Tara, and she didn't know Travis in life, but she has fought hard to be his voice, she has been a true friend to him. I'm sure she would have loved to know Travis in his lifetime, but this picture tells me, she's grateful she got to know him in a way, that while tragic, is somehow more personal.

Her wide grin is not sadness, it is victory. Her upraised fist is not anger, it is triumph.

When I think about the Travis I've come to know these many months, I think "what would Travis do?", and I think he would do exactly what Tara and her son are doing. I think Travis would approve.

And so beyond the sadness, I can find a little peace.

Thank you Tara for being the beautiful human being you've proven yourself to be. Thank you for being a friend to Travis and his family.

Then Truthseaker said,
JDT, and other forum followers, I have been thinking about this for some time, but have put off commenting because of how deeply I feel. I tend to be very flippant in my comments, I have learned that humor has served me well for my interactions with others. I tend to keep my deep feelings to myself and answer others with a sarcastic remark. In my professional life I deal with people when they are at their most visceral, honest, and at times, venerable. I have been able to keep myself in a therapeutic role and not subject others to my feelings. The people I interact with at work are in psychiatric crisis and need me to keep myself in my clinical role as a nurse.

The murder of Travis has really struck a cord with me. i see some people that are examples of both Jodi and Travis. I have to keep my feelings separate from my therapeutic self. I cannot and will not allow myself to my express how much I feel their pain or how much they are destroying themselves and others. Jodi is flat out a sociopath. there is no helping her to see the problems she is having nor any therapy or drugs that will help her. She needs to be removed from society and kept from being able to hurt others. And she will hurt others given the chance.

Travis was an average guy. He was making his his mark in the world. He had the capability to make a true positive effect on the people and society around him. Would he have? We will never know. He was killed before he could reach his potential. He did not deserve to be cut down like a savage abuser.  Was he perfect? No, none of us are. did he use Jodi? I don’t care. I have used others in the past and will in the future. I have been used and expect that I will be in the furture. Was he a pedophile? There is no proof other that the word of a very sick individual. Have others accused me of horrific actions? Yes, the accusations where unfounded, and the attempt of my first wife to garner revenge on me because I would not support her illegal actions. Does this make me a target for murder? No, I am not perfect and their is not another human that is. If you believe in Christ, then he is the only one.

I will flat-out state that I am sure that Travis suffered and was terrified when he was butchered. What I know of knife attacks and gunshots, I cannot see anyway that he wasn’t. You do not die immediately when stabbed in a major blood vessel. Do you attack the person that stabbed, was stabbing you? Probably not. There is shock and disbelief that this is happening. You will not fight your attacker, they are a person that you know and can’t believe they did this to you. We know that the attack was very quick and savage. Travis was butchered in the most personal and savage way possible. Do I feel vindictive? Yes, as a human being, I cannot feel differently. Does it upset me that a trust has been started for Jodi’s appeals? Yes it does. But I understand that there are people that will always take the side of proven killers, it is a sad situation, but, these people are to be pitied.  The killing of Travis needs to be kept in the thoughts of people. We as humans need to always fight to stop these vile butchers that prey on other people, and to have pity on those that, because of mental illness, support these sociopaths.

The Eulogy

Sorry, I know I should've posted this earlier ...for those who were unable to attend the funeral in CA ... below is the Eulogy. Sorry if the formatting is weird. And please forgive my grammatical errors.

Eulogy for Travis Alexander

Given by Deanna Reid at funeral service held on 06/21/08 in Riverside, CA.

It is my honor and privilege to pay tribute to my dearest friend. I would ask that your prayers be with me as I try my best to speak today.

Travis Victor Alexander was born on July 28, 1977 to Gary and Pamela Alexander in Riverside, CA. He had two older brothers (Gary & Greg) and was followed with four sisters (Tanisha, Samantha, Hillary, Allie) and one more brother (Steven). This is an excerpt from Travis’s blog, recalling when he was a small child he says:

During this time I can think of two fond memories of my childhood. The first is Sesame Street. My Sisters and I watched it everyday and it took our minds to where kids were happy and learning.
The other was visiting the home of my Great-Grandfather Vic. He would grab me by my shoulders and shake me. Then he would follow with these words, these words that alter every aspect of my life, “Travis, you need to know that you are special, that there is not anything that you can’t do. There is something great inside you. You’re special Travis, don’t you ever forget it.” That was quickly followed by a rigid hug that would squeeze the breath out of me.

I remember the day I came to the conclusion there was a God. I was 6. I screamed as loud as I could all day long to God, for my near by grand mother to get me and take me for the weekend. Sure enough that evening she came and picked me up.

Travis moved in with his grandparents Jim & Norma Sarvey when he was 11 years old. Things were rough at home with his parents so one day he walked over to his Grandmother’s house and said to her, I’m going to live with you now.
Travis used to quote Abraham Lincoln when referring to his grandmother changing the quote slightly by saying, “All I am, or can be, I owe to my angel (grand) mother”.

It may be a surprise to some people that when Travis first started high school, he was very shy. He went to Rubidoux High and at times would eat lunch in the library all by himself. He considered himself to be an introvert but started to break out of his shell after he became active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when he was 16 years old.
He was on the wrestling team and loved to practice his wrestling moves on his sisters. He would also flex his muscles whenever an opportunity presented itself or even when it didn’t!

After high school he worked to save money to serve a mission for the church. He was called to serve in the Colorado Denver South mission from 1996 to 1998. Travis wrote me a letter while I was serving a mission and said the following:
I was going through my missionary pictures and remembering back to those days. It almost seems like a dream. Those were some good times. Those were also some really rough times but it was a blast. It brought me back to how hard I worked and how much I learned. Enjoy your time serving our Redeemer and Savior. That was the best part of it--just serving Him.

Travis returned with honor from his mission and began attending the Riverside Singles Ward. He loved to be social and date and made special efforts to be friends with everyone. He also continued as a member missionary and strived to find those that were searching for something more so that he could share his knowledge of the gospel with them.

Doing his family’s genealogy was very important to him. He would get excited when he would find members of his family and link his family tree together. He would attend the temple often and was called to be a temple worker at the LA temple for a time after his mission.

He worked many different jobs in search for a career. None of them seemed to be working out so he prayed that he would find something. The next day he had a feeling he should go up to Chris Hughes at church and ask him what he did for a living. Meanwhile, Chris had been praying for someone that could be a leader in his developing business with Pre-paid Legal Services—someone with the same vision he had. Sure enough, Travis became an associate with Pre-Paid Legal and worked and thrived in this business opportunity.

In 2004, Travis packed his bags and moved to Mesa, AZ where he purchased his home on Queensborough Avenue. He loved to decorate and make improvements—so much that he bought Martha Stewart and Feng Shui books to help him achieve his vision. He would often call his brothers for advice on how to fix things—such as wiring in a ceiling fan. He had a specific goal on how he wanted to decorate the house and he truly made it happen, from colors he was going to paint the walls, to the theater room he wanted for UFC parties. He was proud of his closet and took special measures to have it organized. It was important for him to be in style and looking good.

Goal setting was a big part of Travis’s every day life. Every morning he got up and pulled out a 3 by 5 card. Here he would write a list of everything that he wanted to accomplish that day and then go through and check it off as the day progressed. He would always put things like read my scriptures, write in journal, random act of kindness, walk 2 miles, and 30 min. of a good book.

In 2005, Travis adopted Napoleon, a black pug. Travis loved this dog like he would a child. He would teach him all kinds of tricks and take him along on road trips.
Traveling was important to Travis. Among the many personal development and spiritual books he had in his impressive library, he had a book called 1000 Places To See Before You Die and was working towards that goal. He recently went to Nauvoo to explore some LDS church history and had the opportunity to visit some other sites along the way.
Some would say that Travis was a walking musical. He would hear something that would remind him of a song and would break into song.
Travis loved training fellow PPL associates on developing leadership skills, commitment, and personal development. One of his favorite mantras was, The greatest leader is the greatest servant.

He was always looking for ways to serve and help people. From helping others completely change their lives for the better to simpler things like
Every Sunday he would collect the trash from the bins throughout the church building and take them out. Whenever a volunteer was needed or something needed to get done, Travis was the first to raise his hand. One of the scriptures he quoted most comes from Ish. 6:8 when the Lord says, “Here am I, send me.”

Near the end of his life he was writing a book and titled it Raising You. This was his attempt to inspire and help even more people to become the best person they could be no matter who they are or where they came from. In his introduction to the book he writes:

I pray that you will allow the words you read to stare deep into your eyes and instill into you that there isn’t anything that you can not do. My desire is that this book will do for you what Grandpa Vic did for me. Help me believe what is already true. That you are special.

Like Travis, I know that we are children of a Heavenly Father that lives and loves us. That we have divine potential. That through our savior Jesus Christ we might gain eternal life and exultation.
I cannot adequately express how much I miss my friend.
•    I will miss his laugh, especially when it’d get out of control getting louder and crazier!
•    How much he loved the French fries at Red Robin restaurants.
•    His method of ordering lemons with his water, making sure to ask “…actually can I get a whole plate of lemons.”
•    The singing voicemails.
•    And so many inside jokes that were only funny to us.

I love you Travi. I would not be who I am today without you. I owe it to you… to be happy and successful in all that I do for the rest of my life.

These things I share with all of you and do so in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Breaking news. The entire Alexander family got up and left the courtroom when Nurmi started reading Arias testimony to the jury about remorse.

Nurmi ended by saying: "Do you want to kill this mentally ill little girl who got involved in a relationship she couldn't handle. If you mark death on the box, you are killing this girl" and he pointed to a picture of Jodi Arias with Travis Alexander.

Jeff Golden gave Nurmi's closing a B plus.

I love that the Alexanders got up and walked out. How they have been strong enough to stay throughout the entire two trials is amazing to me. And to listen to the lies and the crap vomit out of the mouths of the defense witnesses and attorneys and sit there and take it as long as they have just shows what a strong family and people they are. I think today was their last straw. Imagine Nurmi telling the jury about a anal machine or I should have said an, not a. He is so disgusting. He will tell the jury any nasty thing to make them believe that Travis had it coming and then he will be famous for saving her life. And the court has been unkind to them as well. This has been only about Arias and being kind and fair and soft for her sake and for the defense witnesses. When we get to hear from the family after this is all over, we will be hearing the horrors they have been subjected to throughout this whole thing. I am proud of these Alexanders for the courage they have had to show all these years. Enough is enough.
