I like Diane Schwartz. I only hope these jurors are as smart as she seems to be.

RE: End is Near Hopefully - duluth45 - 02-27-2015

Thank you, Greyhound. I love the picture of her in stripes. And it's interesting that the Long Beach Shelter doesn't appear to want to be involved with Arias' money. I wonder if that is the group who Lavilette gave the disgusting talk to.

And welcome, Greyhound. Nice to hear your voice.

What are you talking about? Please include a link to your information.

RE: End is Near Hopefully - duluth45 - 02-28-2015

Observer, I think so highly of Diane Schwartz. She seems so centered and focused and intelligent. I wish I knew her. I am so proud of her work on the first trial. And I, like her, believe that if Arias had gotten away with this slaughter that she would do it again. It is a gut feeling but I am telling you that I do feel that she would kill more people. People who knew Travis very likely, or possibly a future lover who woke up to reality. I would love to hear more of Diane's take on the first trial. Now here is a question. Would it matter if this current jury can't agree? My understanding whether right or wrong is: if the jury votes death, it is death. If they vote life, it goes to the judge to decide with or without parole (or release after 25 years). Is that correct? In other words, if this jury votes life, the judge gets the final say, correct? So. What would it matter if it is a hung jury? Do you know what I mean? Either way (other than the death sentence) it goes to the judge. Right?

Observer, did you never see that video of LaVILEtte giving her talk to the Long Beach .... whatever it was? It was REPULSIVE. And those women sitting there were like cackling hens. LaVILEtte basically told them that poor little abused Arias was further abused by Juan and that Travis was a horrible disgusting pervert and that Juan mistreated her, LaVILEtte, and that he was horrible, Travis was horrible, etc. etc. etc. I don't have a link to it. Just google her and put in Long Beach if you have that much stamina. It is disgusting. Those incredibly stupid women applauded her. Horrible women. It was some sort of woman abuse center type thing. They worship and adore the LaVILEtte person. I don't know how else to direct you to that hideous talk.

RE: End is Near Hopefully - Justice - 02-28-2015

I found this interesting. I had not heard this story. It really is new to me. After Travis was murdered and before Jodi was arrested, his friends were living in fear so bad, they could not stay at their homes, alone. I get email notifications from Cathy, and her Court Chatter.
Go to this link and see “*New* Travis's roommate describes the fear he and others felt following the murder “

While searching for a video of ALV's testimony, I found a comment that stated that ALV had been fired from a job because of the Arias trial. So I did some poking around.

According to ALV's CV, ALV has been lecturing at Cal State Univ Long Beach since 2011. I checked CSULB's spring, summer and fall class schedules. ALV is currently teaching one of the three sections of Psy 354; Psychology of Women. http://www.csulb.edu/depts/enrollment/registration/class_schedule/Spring_2014/By_Subject/PSY.html

ALV is not scheduled to teach Psy 354 fall semester. Only one of the three sections is currently assigned. The other 2 sections are taught by "staff". This indicates that the class is not currently assigned to a lecturer. The semester schedule shows that most classes have been assigned; current faculty has been assigned their fall semester classes. http://www.csulb.edu/depts/enrollment/registration/class_schedule/Fall_2014/By_Subject/PSY.html

I think ALV is gone from Cal State Long Beach. I'm not 100% certain of this, but I personally believe ALV has either resigned or is no longer being offered classes to teach.

I have no idea why ALV was reaching at Cal State. Most universities require that lecturers/instructors and professors have Ph.Ds or are grad students in the related department.

Later Victorious also wrote,

On her CV, ALV also lists that she is an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Southern California School of Social Work, Center on Child Welfare.

ALV is no longer listed as faculty at the USCSSW program. Adjunct Lecturer - University of Southern California School of Social Work, Center on Child Welfare.  http://sowkweb.usc.edu/faculty-directory/letter/L

It's time for ALV to update her CV.

Alyce has lost quite a bit of income now that she isn't teaching part-time. Her type of private practice pays nothing. She likely earned more as a part-time lecturer than she does in her private practice.

I knew that ALV killed her career as an expert witness because of her testimony for Jodi. I didn't realize that she was teaching so much.

Colleges and Universities have no need and no obligation to keep part-time lecturers on staff. Part-time lecturers are given temporary contracts. These contracts are only good for one semester (usually). If an institution wants a part-time lecturer to teach again, the institution signs another temporary contract with that faculty member.

Alyce's teaching carer is o.v.e.r.

Teaching was very likely ALV's source for health insurance. If so, ALV is experiencing a decrease in income and probably a steep increase in health insurance costs.

Ouch.[/quote]

Alyce is now scheduled to teach at Cal State Long Beach this Fall.

I decided to check Cal State's Fall 2014 schedule. ALV is now scheduled to teach this Fall. I'm surprised that the Univ schedule for ALV to teach again.

ALV is scheduled to teach 2 sections on the Psychology of Women.

I want to slap the Psychology Department Dean ... really hard.

ALV is not scheduled to teach at the University of Southern California. Th and dog.

RE: End is Near Hopefully - Observer - 02-28-2015

Justice, thank you for the link to the Court Chatter article from Travis's roommate about how scared he and his friends were after the murder and how they all slept in the same house and one had a loaded gun and how they all thought Jodi did it. This is the first time I heard from Enrique. Taylor Searle told the media that right after he found out Travis was murdered, he knew Jodi had killed him and he called Lisa and Mimi to make sure they were safe. Searle also said they all worried about their safety. Chris and Sky also told the media they warned all their friends to stay away from Jodi after Travis was murdered because they feared she could kill any of them.

It is too bad that this testimony couldn't have come out in the retrial because this jury may get the idea that the murder of Travis Alexander was just personal because of their relationship and not that she killed him because she is dangerous and would kill anyone she perceived as abandoning or betraying her. Instead all they heard was Travis was the violent, dangerous, lying, controlling abusive perpetrator and Arias was the victim who suffered in silence.

Duluth, I can't stand Alyce LaViolette and so I wouldn't watch a video of her. I remember reading about a video she made trashing Alexander and Martinez to her groupies who were all cheering her on. That was right after she testified in 2013. I also vaguely remember Arias claiming she was donating proceeds of her survivors T shirts to a battered wives shelter and the shelter stating on their website that they did not receive any donations and asking her to take their name off of her website selling the t shirts. That was two years ago. I thought you were talking about current news.

Yes, Duluth if the jury hangs or votes for life, the judge decides on life without parole or release after 25 years. The release after 25 years was abolished in 2009 because the legislature determined anyone convicted of first degree murder should never get out of prison. Because Arias committed the crime in 2008, she could get released after 25 years but that has never happened so no one knows how that works. There is no parole for first degree murder in Arizona.

Which expert witness is withdrawing? Is this officially LaViolette? I don't know the rules of retrial, but if the retrial does not automatically cover previous witnesses, then this should be someone else? Does not make sense that everyone would be automatically under subpoena, requiring a motion to quash it.

Ooh, ooh, ooh. Dr. Karp's name is being thrown around for real this time. Last time it was supposedly an error in an electronic filing, but this time it looks like she is supposed to factor into the penalty phase somehow. Can anyone make sense of this? Does the prosecution want to use Karp's words against Arias in the rebuttal phase of the penalty trial and that is what the defense is trying to keep out?

Saving the best one for last...OBJECTING TO CONDUCTING TRIAL (PENALTY PHASE) IN SECRET AND ALLOWING WITNESSES TO TESTIFY UNDER A PSEUDONYM; SENTENCING MEMORANDUM. WTF? The dockets shows "defendant's response" but there is no entry on the docket for the original motion, but I am going to guess that Nurmi filed a motion to have the trial in secret and allowing witnesses to testify under a pseudonym, with Martinez objecting and now this is Nurmi responding back to the State's objection? If my interpretation is correct, this is taking things way too far and Judge Stephens better not completely close the retrial. I can't imagine that, yet she has taken things much, much further than I expected. It does make me uncomfortable with the lack of transparency.

@ Alyce worked in Long Beach Ca. at a shelter as a counselor or lectured victims, I don't know if it's the same one (told JII to stop about t-shirts) but theirs a likelyhood (both in Long Beach Ca.) I was never able to confirm address!

So assume no DP by jury' be it life or undecided, what stops Jodi from appealing on grounds of wanting out in 25 years' Jodi will play the court system like a fiddle, time served is her wish!
If Life without parole' Jodi will argue the courts were undecided about 25 years and for ease Judge omitted the option' not knowing the time served ramifications, it's appeal fuel out the ying-yang, first jury asked "what does life mean" 10 months later and still no answer, DP is the only way to avoid (sentencing) grounds for appeal!
What if this jury asks the same question? Parole or release after 25 years or not? If all things (deliberations) equal, jurors should reach that question about lunchtime Monday!

RE: End is Near Hopefully - Observer - 02-28-2015

After watching the jurors in the Jodi Arias retrial reporters Beth Karas, Jenn Wood and Jarrett Seltzer all predict a death sentence in this excellent Verdict Watch Show. Karas said it will be death or deadlock, just as I suspect. They said the jury is united, there are no real mitigators and the autopsy pictures are compelling. It's a long interview but definitely worth listening to the end.

RE: End is Near Hopefully - Observer - 02-28-2015

I feel better after hearing someone who has covered the trial and watch the jurors say there is a very good chance of a death verdict and having them explain why because this is the first time I've heard predictions from any legal analysts or reporters besides Jeff Gold and Nancy Grace. Seltzer, Wood and Karas have sat in that courtroom and watched the jury and from the juror's stern and disgusted faces and their skeptical questions, they think they are not buying the defense's claim of physical abuse, the child abuse, the mental illness or that Alexander watched porn and had sex with 12 women so he deserves to die.

Karas also said Martinez may have chosen to stick with disputing the mitigators instead of stressing the premeditation and cruelty because the judge might have ruled if he brings up the crime Nurmi can bring up the self defense. I think that is probably true because the judge wouldn't allow Abe to talk about how Arias was manipulative and tried to seduce him and I noticed that whenever Fonseca or Geffner started to talk about the murder, Martinez shut it down with a strong objection. He clearly did not want self defense in there to muddy the water. It benefits the prosecution if that is never mentioned. The jury can't discuss that either. All they can discuss is the testimony they heard and the evidence in front of them.

Karas also stated that all of the jurors had heard of the case and some of them knew it well. If there is any question about the evidence, the jurors who know she drove 1,000 miles to Mesa with gas cans and her phone shut off can explain the timeline of the premeditation to the jury because that is all in evidence. Horne testified Alexander was killed three times over, Flores said Ryan Byrnes testified she grinded and made out with him right after the murder and that Daryl Brewer had said she called him a week before the murder to borrow the gas cans, the Yreka detective testified that a .25 caliber gun was stolen from her grandfather's house and nothing of value was taken except for the gun, the rental agent said she rented a car 100 miles from her home disguised as a blonde and the Wal-Mart employee said she never returned the gas can.
